Here’s a 7-day itinerary for the Makarska Riviera, designed to balance beaches, nature, villages, and relaxed exploring along the Dalmatian coast of Croatia.
It assumes you’re based in or near Makarska, which is the best central base.
Day 1 – Arrival & Makarska Old Town
Focus: settling in, seaside atmosphere
- Stroll along Makarska’s waterfront promenade (Riva)
- Explore the Old Town with St. Mark’s Square and local churches
- Visit the small harbor and watch ferries to nearby islands
- Relax on Makarska Beach or Nugal Beach (more hidden, naturist-friendly)
Evening:
- Dinner by the sea (fresh grilled fish, seafood risotto)
- Sunset walk along the promenade
Day 2 – Brela & Baška Voda beaches
Focus: iconic Riviera beaches
Visit two of the most beautiful seaside towns:
- Brela
- Walk to Punta Rata Beach (famous turquoise water + pine forest)
- Scenic coastal promenade “lungo mare”
- Baška Voda
- Relaxed beach day or water sports (SUP, kayaking)
- Small marina and cafés
Evening:
- Return to Makarska for dinner or stay in Baška Voda for sunset drinks
Day 3 – Biokovo Nature Park adventure
Focus: mountains + panoramic views
- Drive into Biokovo Nature Park
- Scenic mountain road with viewpoints over the Adriatic
- Visit the famous Skywalk Biokovo (glass platform over cliffs)
- Optional short hikes in the park
Evening:
- Rest back in Makarska (this is a more intense day)
Day 4 – Tučepi & Podgora relaxed day
Focus: slow beach day + local villages
- Tučepi
- Long beach ideal for swimming or cycling along the coast
- Very calm, family-friendly vibe
- Podgora
- Small harbour walk
- Coffee by the sea
- Optional boat excursion booking
Evening:
- Sunset dinner in Podgora or Makarska
Day 5 – Island excursion (Brač or Hvar)
Focus: Adriatic islands
Choose one:
- Brač Island (closest)
- Visit Bol and Zlatni Rat beach
- Swim in crystal-clear water

- Hvar Island
- Historic old town, lavender landscapes
- More lively and stylish atmosphere
Evening:
- Return by ferry or boat tour
- Light dinner and rest
Day 6 – Gradac & southern Riviera
Focus: quieter beaches + hidden spots
- Drive south to Gradac
- Long, peaceful beaches with fewer tourists
- Clear water and relaxed atmosphere
- Stop at small coves along the way
- Optional visit to Drvenik (ferry port village)
Evening:
- Back to Makarska or stay for sunset in Gradac
Day 7 – Relax, shopping & farewell
Focus: easy final day
- Morning swim at Makarska Beach or Tučepi
- Souvenir shopping in Makarska Old Town:
- Olive oil, lavender products, local wine
- Optional café hopping along the promenade
- Final sunset walk along the Riva
Extra tips
- Best base: Makarska or Baška Voda
- Rent a car if possible (makes villages + Biokovo much easier)
- Beaches are mostly pebbles → bring water shoes
- July–August = crowded; June & September = ideal
