History (what is known)
- The wreck dates to World War II, when German forces operated along the Adriatic coast.
- It is believed the ship was sunk or scuttled around 1944 during wartime activity in the area.
- Exact identification is debated, but it’s commonly described as a German military transport / Siebel ferry–type craft.
Why it’s famous
- The wreck lies inside a dramatic, fjord-like canyon inlet surrounded by cliffs.
- It is part of a protected landscape and is one of the most photographed underwater wrecks in Croatia.
- You can even see it from walking trails above the bay.
Aerial and diving photos show the hull clearly in turquoise water just meters below the surface.
