Greeting to the Sun – Zadar
Gruß an die Sonne (Greeting to the Sun) is a modern light installation on the waterfront of Zadar and one of the city’s most famous attractions.
What it is
- A large circular installation (about 22 meters wide) made of glass panels
- Contains solar cells that collect energy during the day
- At night, it produces a colorful LED light show on the ground
How it works
- During daylight: absorbs sunlight (solar energy)
- After sunset: releases energy as dynamic light patterns
- The lights change in random, wave-like sequences, inspired by nature and astronomy
Location & connection
- Located directly on the waterfront promenade in Zadar
- Designed by Croatian architect Nikola Bašić
- Works together with the nearby Meeresorgel, which creates music from sea waves
